Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), also referred to as physiatry, is a medical speciality concerned with diagnosis, evaluation, and management of persons of all ages with injury, pain, physical disability and behavior and thinking problems.

This speciality uses comprehensive physical exams to find the cause of the symptoms, even when standard tests reveal no specific problem. Most importantly, the physiatrist treats the whole person, not just the symptoms. The goal of the physiatrist is to increase function and add quality to life.
